Abstract Line Based

My abstract line phase, was mostly carried out on small paper. The main technique i used for the raw expression, was to close my eyes and focus on whether my energy was calm, violent, or somewhere in-between, and then transcribe that. I did this first with the "line / object / space" series. Then refined it a bit more with the "line outburst" series. Since the process was done with my eyes closed, I cut a square out of a piece of cardboard, and placed it over the paper drawing surface. That way my pencils travel was restricted to just the drawing surface. I did hundreds of these and then then went into a selection process of deciding on which ones to continue to develop.
Ultimately this phase peaked at the "Paynes Gray" series, which was a selection of 5 of the drawings turned into large minimalist paintings.
